PLANS to build a 90 home extra care development as part of a larger housing scheme have been approved.

The development at Sowerby, near Thirsk includes 64 apartments housed in a three storey building which will also include a cafe and communal lounge. The development will also include 26 extra care bungalows and shops, all situated around a landscaped square.

The development is designed to allow older residents the opportunity for independent living in their homes, with care and support available 24 hours a day.

The site will be built off Topcliffe Road as part of the much larger Sowerby Gateway development, which will eventually include a school, sports village, more shops and more than 900 other homes.

The plans were approved at a Hambleton District Council’s planning meeting.
