DARLINGTON Parks Bowling Association is offering a weekend of free coaching sessions in an effort to get more people interested in the sport.

The association formed in early 2011 to take over responsibility for the care and maintenance of four public bowling greens that would otherwise have faced closure as a result of council budget cuts.

Chairman Malcolm Cundick said: “We have been relatively successful in this respect but some flooding problems at the Brinkburn Dene green meant that we regrettably had no option but to hand our lease back to the council.

“Happily it is now to be taken over by Darlington Bee Keepers Association.”

The association is holding open days at the green in South Park on April 26 and 27.

Mr Cundick added: “We will be offering free coaching sessions for potential new players.

“Further coaching sessions will follow at our other greens through the season.”
