OPERA musicians are tuning up for an evening of beautiful music in support of a Darlington charity.

The Darlington and District branch of the Samaritans will benefit from a concert by Opera by Design, being held at Cockerton Methodist Church on Saturday (March 15), at 7.30pm.

Four of the region’s most popular soloists will perform at the church, where a final rehearsal and preview took place on Sunday (March 9) afternoon.

The performance will include many opera favourites such as The Flower Duet, The Garret Duet from La Boheme, Canon Quartet from Fidelio and the rousing Brindisi from La Traviata, as well as some arrangements of well-known pieces by director Stuart Buckton.

Mr Buckton said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to sing in this wonderful location and will be performing some of the most popular arias, duets, trios and quartets in the operatic repertoire. It is an evening not to be missed.”

The performers are soprano Paulina Rossi, mezzo-contralto Janet Walke (correct), tenor Alan Phelps and baritone Bill Greenwood.

Liz McAllister, director of Darlington and District Samaritans, added: “We are delighted that Opera by Design is working with us to hold this event for the branch.

“It is a great opportunity for people to hear some wonderful music sung by some fabulous local singers.”

Tickets cost £7.50 for adults and £5 for under-16s, or £20 for a family of two adults and two under-16s.
