A COMMUNITY dance school launched by teenage sisters aiming to make lessons accessible for all has staged its first show.

A dozen children took part in the Inspire Beyond Dance show which was organised by Shannon McCann, 18, and her sister Emma, 19, who set up their dance school from scratch eight months ago.

The sisters charge just £2 per weekly session and all the dancers’ outfits for the show were handmade by their mother, Lynne.

The McCann’s were delighted with their pupils’ performance which took place at their base at St Anne’s Church Hall and raised £287 towards the cost of future show costumes and the weekly hall hire.

Emma, who fits in the voluntary dance teaching around her full-time job at a Darlington jewellers, said the show was a huge hit with the audience and she was incredibly proud of the children.

She added: “This dance group is for children to have fun while dancing, show their friends and family what they can do and build their confidence.

“Dance is a huge part of mine and Shannon's life and we want to share our passion.”

The group meets at St Anne’s Church Hall, Welbeck Avenue, on Thursdays at 6.30pm and is open to new members.
