POLICE are investigating after a passenger’s bag was stolen on a train.

The theft took place on Wednesday, February 5, at about 9.45pm as the passenger was travelling north to the North-East.

The 46-year-old man, from Durham, had put his suitcase in the vestibule at the end of carriage E on the 8.15pm Peterborough to Newcastle service.

Sergeant Bob Moody, from British Transport Police (BTP), said: “A man, carrying a Sports Direct drawstring bag and a small holdall, got up to leave the train at York.

“Just prior to alighting the train he pulled up his hood then picked up the victim’s case before quickly leaving the train.

“After reviewing CCTV from the train I would like to trace the man pictured, who we believe may have caught a later train to Scarborough.”

Anyone with information is asked to call BTP on freephone 0800-40-50-40 or text 61016, quoting reference NEA/B8 of 4/3/14.
