VETERAN rockers The Beach Boys will perform an open-air concert at York Racecourse's annual celebration of sport and music.

The band, which formed in 1961, will play hits including Good Vibrations, I Get Around and California Girls at Knavesmire after the racing action on Friday, July 25, following a show at Hampton Court, in Surrey the previous day.

The Beach Boys, who will perform on a trackside stage, will be fronted by co-founder Mike Love and the line-up includes bassist Bruce Johnston, who joined the band in 1965.

A racecourse spokesman said: “When combined with some of the best thoroughbreds in the country, we believe we are on to a winner by attracting them.

“They have performed live to 750,000 people at the Washington Monument and have sold over 100 million records, so it should be something special."

Tickets for the racing and concert event cost from £20 per person as part of a group, and accompanied children enter free.

Wet Wet Wet will be among the bands performing at the Music Showcase Weekend the following day.
