A TEENAGER injured in a two-vehicle collision on a moorland road has been released from hospital.

The two passengers, aged 17 and 18, remain critical in James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough following the acciednt at around 3.15pm on Thursday (February 27).

It happened at the junction of Moor Road and the road known locally at the Tank Road, near Leyburn, North Yorkshire, close to the Bellerby Camp military ranges.

They were both passengers in a black Vauxhall Corsa.

The Corsa was in collision with a white MINI driven by a woman in her mid-60's.

The teenagers, from the Masham and Bedale areas, were airlifted to hospital.

The woman in the MINI was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital by road ambulance with minor injuries.

He said: “The nature of the incident called for a large-scale response.

“We worked alongside the police, fire service, road ambulance, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and some soldiers.

“It was a case of everyone pulling together and we're hoping for good news about the casualties.”

The Corsa is believed to have driven over Grinton Moor to the crossroads and the Mini had travelled from Richmond towards Redmire.
