RICHMOND students have shown off their skiing skills and brought home silver medals after a trip to France last month.

At the British Schoolgirls Races in Flaine, France, last month six girls from Richmond School took home three silver medals.

Richmond School competed against 48 teams from leading public schools and elite International institutions.

Richmond A team, Honor Clissold, 16, Cara Websdale, 16, and Annabelle Wright, 15, skied clean fast runs to achieve second place in both the slalom and giant slalom leading to the overall silver ranking.

It was Richmond’s fourth time at British Schoolgirls Races but for the first time the school took a second team. Mia Cole, 13, Beth Lightfoot, 16, and Isabel Bushell, 12, all finished both competitions without falling or making any errors of course and were placed fifth among the B teams.

Honor Clissold, who is a member of the British Junior Ski Team also won the best under 18 and overall Champion titles.

Team captain Cara Websdale, 16, said: "Everyone trained very hard to get these results.

“We have come a long way since we first competed in France. I hope our success will encourage more athletes to put the hours in – practice is the only way to improve."

The Richmond Ski Club trains on a Tuesday night at Silksworth Ski Club in Sunderland. It is organised by parents, with full support of the school, and is also open to skiers from other Richmond Schools who wish to try the exciting sport of ski racing.
