DOGS were put through a series of challenges more usually associated with horses at a special event to raise cash for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

Dressage, show jumping and a cross country course were set out at Streatlam Park, near Barnard Castle, for the dogs to tackle Organiser Donna Wood said there were three classes – for small, medium and large dogs – and owners taking part ranged in age from six to 60.

“Competitors wore their riding attire or equivalent and started off with a shortened version of a dressage, followed by a round of eight jumps, then onto dog agility for the cross country section.

“The event was a bit of fun to raise funds for a great cause.”

In total, more than £300 was raised for the air ambulance service.

“The feedback from this event was uplifting and positive. We are already planning another,” added Ms Wood.
