ELVIS will serenade market-goers when a live music event gets underway for the first time next week.

Buskers in Blackwellgate in Darlington on Sunday, March 2, has been set up in a bid to transform the area into a hub of musical activity.

The Americana themed event will see a host of musicians including Elvis tribute act Kidd Kreole, Willow Creek and Creepy Uncle perform for free on Blackwellgate throughout the afternoon.

Performances will begin at 11am with Ron Howe and Friends and the event will run alongside the Darlington Sunday People’s Market until the last act plays at 3pm.

Buskers in Blackwellgate, sponsored by neighbouring businesses Guru Boutique and Ron’s Music, was created by Guru owner Beryl Hankin.

She said: “I think it’s so great that all these talented musicians are providing their music for free in order to try and create a happy vibe for us all to enjoy.”

A second event is scheduled to take place at the following Darlington Sunday People’s Market on Sunday, April 6.
