TWO Northallerton students have received scholarships to help them pursue careers in the poultry industry.

The British Poultry Council Scholarships, offered at Harper Adams University, in Shropshire, make up to £3,500 available to chosen students for up to two academic years. They also provide a guaranteed placement within a company sponsoring the scholarship.

Kate Chapman, 20, from Northallerton, a second year student studying for a degree in nutrition and well-being, has been awarded a scholarship by Faccenda, which supplies fresh chicken products. She will complete her placement at the company.

Jennifer Costello, 20, also from Northallerton, is a second-year undergraduate studying Animal Health and Welfare. She has received backing from Gressingham Foods and as a result will be given the opportunity to learn about speciality poultry production.

Tom Heseltine, 22, from Skipton, was selected as a Faccenda scholar in 2012 and has just returned to the Shropshire-based university to complete his studies after a placement with the group.
