City of York Council to discuss a weekend treatment centre for drunk people

ALCOHOL EXCESS: A medical centre for drunk people could be set up in York at weekends to ease pressure on paramedics and hospitals.

The centre would provide a safe place for people who have drunk too much and would be manned by police, paramedics, emergency care practitioners and volunteers from Street Angels.

A report due to be discussed this week by City of York Council suggests a weekend treatment centre to stop drunk people putting a “disporportionate burden” on health services.

How about City of York Council actually put some measures in place to curb the ridiculous drunkeness that blights York from Friday night to Sunday morning. It's going to have an increasing effect on tourism if this Summer is a repeat of the last couple of years.

Pubs and bars turning away the Stag and Hen do's/large groups that are presently turning the city centre into a no-go area every weekend would be a start.

York is a historic and beautiful city with much to offer but an incompetent council and money grubbing bars look to appeal to the lowest common denominator are steadily turning it into a tacky blackpool-like dive.
