STYLE-conscious youngsters are turning trash into fashion for a special catwalk show.

The project involves three Barnard Castle-based organisations – Teesdale School's extended services department, The Hub and Teesdale YMCA.

The young designers are making clothes and accessories using everything from plastic bags to bottle tops.

In preparation for the Trashion Show, at The Hub on Friday, March 7, a workshop is being held on Monday, February 17, from 10am-3pm, also at The Hub.

The Trashion Show will also feature craft stalls and a clothes swap, where guests can have their old clothes’ carbon footprint calculated, and use these credits to buy other’s unwanted goods.

Local jewellery designer Emma Hedley, 29, has been working alongside students to help them with their crafty creations.

“The aim of the project is to inspire young people into reusing old bits and bobs from around the house, but also have fun at the same time,” she said.

Event co-ordinator Eve Galloway said anybody can get involved with the project.

“You don’t have to be a student at Teesdale School to take part.

“We’re looking for people who can model the clothes, help make more outfits and to design the backdrop. The workshop allows us to branch out and to get more people involved with such a great project.”

Anyone interested can go along to Monday's workshop. For details call Mrs Galloway on 07522-034171.
