PEOPLE are being asked to send a Valentine’s gift to “mend a dog’s broken heart” at a rescue centre.

The Jerry Green Dog Rescue, which has a centre at Thirsk, North Yorkshire, is asking people to donate toys and treats as part of its Love Us, Love Our Dogs campaign.

Under the initiative people can go onto the online Amazon, pick a gift or toy from the dogs’ wish list and send it to a specific dog at the rescue.

“Around Valentine’s Day we all like to make a loved one feel special and a dog’s love is unconditional,” said Catherine Foster, head of fundraising at Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

“With 160 rescue dogs in our care we want to make them feel loved again with delicious treats and exciting toys. While we help to find the perfect partner our for dogs any donations will help to mend a broken heart.”

Items can be donated to the dogs in person at the centre in Catton, or by visiting: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/wishlist/2OSJDNQDVYV35 to choose a gift online and arrange delivery by post.
