AN ARTIST from Yarm who has worked for Disney and Penguin Books is displaying her Moors landscapes at a gallery in York.

Angela Edwards, 46, who has been an artist for more than 25 years, illustrating Beatrix Potter merchandise and books as well as working on fabrics for Marks & Spencer and Mothercare, carries out landscape and portrait commissions – as well as painting her own oils.

Inspired by great artists such as Lucien Freud and US painter Aaron Smith, she uses the “impasto” technique for her own landscape works in oil – a thick, textured application of oil paint with a palette knife.

She also displays some work in the Mockingbird Deli in Yarm.

Mrs Edwards, who has two teenage daughters, worked freelance in London on designs for Frederick Warne, Disney and Penguin, among others. She also painted Peter Rabbit and Friends and scenes from Beatrix Potter’s Lake District.

Much of the merchandise in shops featuring Beatrix Potter characters has been painted by Angela.

Angela can be contacted for commissions on her website at www.angelaedwardsart.com.

Her current exhibition, Landscapes of the North, is being held at the Chris Ceaser gallery at 89 Micklegate, York until April 6 and features Moors landscapes, many of which were painted around the Osmotherley area.
