A POLICE and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has offered to meet with the parents of a three-year-old boy who was killed in an alleged hit-and-run accident after supporters accused police of not doing enough to investigate the incident.

Danny Wake, from Darlington, was knocked over and killed on November 4 as he walked home from the town centre with his mother and younger brother.

Despite appeals by both the police and his friends and family, the driver responsible for Danny’s death has so far not been traced.

An online petition – Justice for Danny Wake –has so far gained more than 1,000 signatures.

The petition states detectives investigating the case have not followed all the leads and urges the County Durham PCC, Ron Hogg, to intervene in the case.

In response to the petition Mr Hogg said: "I have been following this investigation and have received a personal briefing from the Senior Investigating Officer. I will be happy to meet with Danny’s parents.”

Durham Police said since the incident, more than 300 homes have been visited and a number of potential witnesses have been interviewed.

More than 300 calls have also been made to police following media appeals.

Danny was struck by a vehicle near the junction of Falmer Road and Neasham Road, in Darlington, at about 10.35am on November 4.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101.
