A BOX containing a small amount of cash and paperwork was stolen from the Mojoa hair salon, in Priestgate, Darlington, between 12.40pm and 1.30pm on Thursday (January 23).

A Darlington police spokesman said: “The shop was open at the time however no staff or customers were on the shop floor at the time, the offender has taken this opportunity to sneak into the store taking the cash box before making off in an unknown direction.”

Officers are to examine CCTV footage and witnesses are asked to call PC Stew Walker, of Darlington priority crime team, on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555-111.

HISTORY COURSE: Age UK Darlington is teaming up with local historian Jean Kirkland to host a course entitled Victorian Values and Darlington People. It will look at Friendly societies and working men’s clubs in the Darlington area, as well as the town’s textile industry. It will examine well-known people from the town’s history, such as Arthur Mowbray, Sophia Fry and the Backhouse family. POWER EVENT: Electricity distribution network operators from across the UK visited Darlington earlier this month to hear how one North East-based project is helping the UK move towards a low carbon economy. More than 50 attendees heard how the Customer-Led Network Revolution (CLNR) – the largest smart grid project in the UK – is trialling a range of innovative new smart grid technology that could enable greater uptake of renewables and low carbon technologies like electric cars and solar panels. Northern Powergrid is leading the CLNR project, working collaboratively with British Gas, EA Technology, Durham University and Newcastle University.
