POLICE are investigating after an 11-year-old boy was mugged by a group of teenagers in Darlington.

The incident happened at a bus stop outside Marks and Spencer, in Northgate, at about 4.15pm, on Monday, December 17.

A spokesman for Darlington police said: “The 11-year-old left the hairdressers in Crown Street, near Wilkinson’s and made his way to the bus stop.

“While at the bus stop, he was approached by a group of about four or five teenagers.

“One of the teenagers in the group pushed the 11-year-old and he has fallen against a bus.

“He has grabbed the bag and made off towards the underpass near M&S.

“A second male from the group has then picked up loose change, which was dropped by the 11-year-old lad.

“This male made off in the direction of Union Street, which leads to Commercial Street car park.”

One of the offenders is described as white, aged 15 or 16 and was wearing a red and white hooped woolly hat with some words on it, as well as a Newcastle United FC scarf, a blue hooded top, blue jeans and bike trainers.

The second offender is described as white, aged 16 or 17 and of thin build with dark-coloured hair.

He was wearing ripped blue jeans and a blue jacket with markings on the back.

A third member of the group is described as white, wearing a blue jumper and with a green tattoo on his right forearm.
