THERE were laughs aplenty when Darlington Women’s Club held its January lunch.
It was provided by Maureen Sutcliffe, who endeared herself to members by telling them she was born and bred in Darlington.
Mrs Sutcliffe gave a talk about rearing livestock and growing vegetables on her family’s smallholding near York.
The group’s next meeting will be held on February 13, when members will hear a talk on the subject of retirement.
CHURCH CHANGES: The Diocese of Durham has announced a number of changes affecting churches in the Darlington area. The Reverend Christine Blakesley, vicar of St Herbert’s Church, in Yarm Road, has been named priest-in-charge of Middleton St George. Reverend Mark East, the vicar of St Andrew’s Church, Haughton, has been named priest-in-charge of Sadberge. On top of their new duties, both will continue in their roles at their existing churches. Meanwhile, Reverend Sue Bruce, previously an associate minister at St Andrew’s, has moved to a similar role in Middleton St George.
MAYOR’S TALK: Darlington mayor Charles Johnson will host the inaugural Darlington Annual Lecture, at Central Hall, on March 6. Coun Johnson said: “The two speakers for this event will be North Easterners known for their commitment to the region - Sir John Hall and Lord Michael Bates. Further details and ticketing information will be made available shortly.”
