AN inquest into the death of 24-year-old Anthony Winter who was killed while cycling on the A68 has opened today (Tuesday, January 21).
County Durham coroner Andrew Tweddle opened and adjourned proceedings in Crook and during the short hearing he confirmed that a post-mortem examination had taken place and police are investigating the death.
Father-of-three Mr Winter died after he was struck by a lorry whilst cycling near Burtree Gate, on the outskirts of Darlington, on the morning of January 9.
He was wearing fluorescent clothing at the time and the driver of the lorry, a 50-year-old man from Barnsley was arrested and released on bail following the incident.
Speaking at the inquest, coroner Mr Tweddle said: “There are ongoing police inquiries and the prospect of criminal proceedings.”
A review is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, April 22.
