AN AIRPORT criticised for not catering for enough destinations will host a holiday sale this weekend.

Fairs Lloyds Travel will highlight its holiday packages with an event taking place from 10am until 3pm at Durham Tees Valley Airport tomorrow and Sunday (January 18 and 19).

The one-off sale will focus on trips to Jersey and Guernsey flying direct from the airport.

Melanie Fairs, of Fairs Lloyds Travel, said: “There’s always high demand for our holiday programme from Durham Tees Valley to the Channel Islands so this weekend’s event is an ideal opportunity for people to find out why so many people choose Jersey and Guernsey.

“We can provide tailor-made packages and our staff can provide advice or answer questions to ensure that people get exactly the holiday they are looking for.”

What a joke, will people have to pay to get in? Peel have chased away so many airlines in a bid to reduce the airport to a proposed housing estate that now they are trying to look as if they are keen for holiday flights! If that was the case why did they tell Thompson's they were not wanted? Peel are nor really interested in running Tees Valley as a commercial airport if they had been there would have been more than one motorway sign altered from Teeside Airport to Durham Tees Valley & they would have followed other airports in reducing the most expensive landing charges in the North East to encourage someone to connect Tees Valley to either London Heathrow, Gatwick or City Airport. Plus as the Bus service can not reach the terminal will Peel unlock the gate to allow people through to the terminal or are they hoping to make money from the car park charges?

Indeed this whole debacle beggars belief. Peel should be taken to task through the courts for the way they and there partners have dealt with this North East Asset. I agree with gramps427. It is a crying shame that it has been allowed to get to this situation, now they want holiday flights at there prices it is cheaper to land at Heathrow.

I traveled through this terrible airport over the Christmas period! on the flight from Amsterdam I heard many Teesside people complaining about how bad the airport was becoming! We waited 35 minutes for our baggage to come into the collection hall! On departure we had to drag our baggage from the car park across shingle stones and through the side entrance 'cafe door'!
Then came the 'rip off' coin machine where you have to pay' Departure tax' This was followed by the most passenger unfriendly woman (K L M ) check in! The safety search 'shakedown' was rude and unfriendly! We are customers but that is totally forgotten ! no customers --No jobs! Needless to say, we will not travel via Teesside Airport ever again! Peel have gotten what they sought after! A rapidly declining airport ready for land re development = MONEY!
