A HUGE clean-up operation of a section of Middlesbrough’s cycle network has resulted in an impressive haul of rubbish.
The town’s Bike Rangers group spent a morning clearing the area around Marsh Road behind Cannon Park and the A66, collecting 72 bags of rubbish in total.
The area, which forms part of the National Cycle Network’s Route One, was beginning to look unkempt.
So Middlesbrough Council cycling officer, Chris Orr, felt it was time to give the area an early spring clean.
He said: “The Marsh Road area is a well-used part of the cycling network both for keen riders on Teesside and those from further afield.
“It might not be well known to those who don’t cycle but Middlesbrough is a popular stopping point on the National Cycle Network, used by people from across Europe.
“We want those visitors to leave with a positive image of Middlesbrough for the clean and cycle-friendly town it is.”
The astonishing amount of rubbish that was collected included a sofa, various car parts and a rake that one of the 12 taking part managed to give a new home to.
