A JOCKEY and trainer who opened holiday accommodation in the grounds of their stables - with views of horses in training – say they have been “astounded” by its success.

Leading northern trainer Ann Duffield and her well-known jockey husband, George, opened their £500,000 development of luxury log cabins at Sun Hill stables, at Constable Burton, near Leyburn, in October last year.

The four luxury log cabins have been fully booked ever since, with 100 per cent occupancy. They have received 350 individual bookings and the lodges are already booked for Christmas and New Year 2014.

The location of the accommodation, overlooking the stable’s gallops, gives holidaymakers views of the countryside and horses in training.

Ann Duffield said: “Our log cabins have proved immensely popular and their 100 per cent occupancy since October has both delighted and astounded us. This amazing take-up is way beyond our expectations.”

It is estimated the new log cabins will provide a £500,000 annual boost to the Wensleydale and wider North Yorkshire economy. Local pubs and restaurants, such as the Wyvill Arms in Constable Burton, say they are already seeing the benefits of this extra business.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "It's great to hear this new development has proved so popular, so quickly. It shows the strength and popularity of Yorkshire tourism and long may it continue."
