POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a collision that caused a heavy goods vehicle to overturn, spilling corrosive chemicals across the carriageway.

The incident at about 4.15pm on Friday (January 10) at the Blackwell roundabout, on the A66(M), near Darlington, led to the closure of the road for several hours while the damage was cleared.

The HGV, which had Total Recycling Services written on the side, was travelling on the Blackwell roundabout towards Darlington, when a white van pulled across it, causing it to overturn.

The driver of the lorry suffered minor injuries in the collision.

The white van involved in the incident is described as a Ford Transit or a Mercedes Vito. It did not stop at the scene.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police are appealing to the driver of the van or anybody who witnessed the incident to come forward with information.

Anyone with information is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option two – and ask for Traffic Constable Tony Leonard or Richmond Road Policing Group, quoting reference number 12140005350.

Alternatively, information can be emailed to tony.leonard@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
