PEOPLE living in Middlesbrough will be able to put forward ideas for items to include in a time capsule which is to be buried at the Middlehaven site.

Locals have until Monday, January 27 to input their ideas for the capsule, which will be buried to coincide with the first phase of an “Urban Pioneers” project on the site.

Initial ideas for the capsule include a steel heart, a Bottle of Notes and photographs of Middlehaven before and after the development of Middlesbrough College.

Students from Middlesbrough College’s Engineering Department have designed the capsule which will be buried beneath the first Urban Pioneers development and are keen to hear suggestions from local people for items which symbolise Middlesbrough’s past, present and future.

The Urban Pioneers project will shape future development at the historic site, and includes self-build plots and financial assistance for well designed homes and offices.

Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for regeneration and economic development, said: “The time capsule is a chance to mark this important milestone in the life of the town, and to record the things that really symbolise both Middlesbrough’s rich heritages and its aspirations for the future.

Suggestions should be sent by email to middlehaven@middlesbrough.gov.uk or by post to Major Projects Team, Middlesbrough Council, First Floor, Civic Centre, Middlesbrough, TS1 9FY.

Entries must be received by Monday, January 27, with the winners due to be announced next month.
