A RESTAURANT which describes itself as a York's only steakhouse has been ranked as the city’s number one place for vegetarians.
The Whippet Inn, in North Street, which opened last year, has received numerous good reviews on the Tripadvisor website under the heading “York vegetarian restaurants”.
Vegetarian dishes on its menu include spinach hummus, beetroot risotto and Yorkshire blue cheese, mushroom, butterbean, and broccoli pie.
Manager Martin Bridge said the restaurant had served as many vegetarians as meat eaters on New Year’s Eve.
He said: “We don’t want to be pigeon-holed. Our 40-day aged steaks are legendary and a best-seller, but our chef is a dab hand with fish and chicken dishes-and vegetarian too."
