HOUSING officials who evicted two anti-social tenants said they are determined to take action to ensure people can live their lives in peace.

Coast and Country recently took action against a tenant living in Dormanstown and another in Skelton, east Cleveland following numerous complaints from neighbours.

In both cases neighbours endured months of drunken behaviour, loud music, abusive language and in one case, communal doors being slamming shut at unsociable hours.

Tenant advisors and enforcement officers worked to resolve the anti-social behaviour through early intervention and referrals to the mediation service. They also tried to engage with the perpetrators to make them understand the impact of their actions and change their behaviour.

Andrea Todd, area manager, said: “We take a firm but fair approach when dealing with the very small minority of residents who cause misery to others.

“In these two cases we worked closely with the affected residents and with Cleveland Police in gathering evidence.

“We would like to thank residents affected for the help they provided in enabling us to work with the police and gain a successful outcome.

"We know that this can be daunting but we believe that our actions have had a positive impact on their quality of life.”

Last year the housing association resolved 415 cases of anti-social behaviour, 88 were dealt with through mediation and legal action was taken in seven cases.
