AN application for the next stage of development on the former Torrington Works site in Darlington has been submitted to planners.

The first stage of development on the brownfield site, on Yarm Road, is now complete with a hotel, restaurant and retail units all occupied.

Developer Commercial Development Projects Limited has applied to Darlington Borough Council for approval of the design and landscaping for two more warehouse style units.

Planning permission for the hybrid site was passed by the planning committee in 2011, with the development split into two phases.

One of the new units has been earmarked for kitchen company Magnet and will be built to a specification, covering 12,000sq ft.

The second unit, covering 5,500sq ft, will be built on a speculative basis.

In a report prepared for planners, the developer notes: “The high quality design and layout principles applied at the site will ensure the site and wider Yarm Road Industrial Area will continue to establish itself as a quality, attractive business area.”
