Stockton MP issues energy saving advice to 40,000 homes

Darlington and Stockton Times: James Wharton James Wharton

AN MP has printed off 40,000 booklets for each own in his constituency to offer energy saving tips.

James Wharton, Conservative MP for Stockton South, says the booklet explains some of the steps the Government is taking to tackle energy costs, including removing green levies and advice on making sure residents are on the cheapest levies.

The MP, who will be fighting one of the most marginal seats in the country next year, said booklet has been paid for entirely by fundraising.

He said: “We have included details of helplines and government schemes which can offer additional assistance. I know people get lots of political leaflets and newsletters so this time rather than my regular newsletter I wanted to do something a bit different.”

I don't know which is worst - the sheer gall of this Tory thinking what people need to keep warm is 'advice' not a price freeze; or the Echo reprinting a publicity handout as news, with no challenge or investigation into, for example, the claimed 'fundraising' that paid for it! From his £20 grand expences perhaps - at least we know how he pays his bills - with our money!
