THE LONG-AWAITED refurbishment of a village hall kitchen is complete, thanks to a lottery grant.

The busy kitchen at Sadberge Village Hall recently underwent an £8,000 make-over.

It has been transformed to provide more space and now boasts better lighting and modern fittings.

Janice Burrows, treasurer of the Sadberge Village Hall Association, led the project and succeeded in obtaining a £5,500 grant from the Big Lottery Awards for All fund to put towards cash already raised.

She said the improvements, which were several years in the planning, meant the kitchen – used to prepare refreshments for coffee mornings, youth events and group meetings all through the week - could now cope better with demand.

She said: “It is helping everything go much more smoothly and we’ve had brilliant feedback, it’s great to have it all done.

“There’s been real community spirit around the project. Everybody in the village has put something in, even if it’s just putting their change in our fundraising bucket.

“It’s important to have a facility like this in the village as it gives people somewhere central to go and chat where they can have a drink and they can order fresh produce.”

Councillor Brian Jones, a member of the Village Hall Association committee, said: “A tremendous amount of hard work has gone into this.

“The community and staff who work here have done an excellent job and it is much improved.

“Those using the facilities can now do so in a much more comfortable manner and we are all very pleased with that.”
