AN award winning catering team is set to serve up quality meals for more students across the Middlesbrough area.

The staff from Unity City Academy’s (UCA) are helping North Ormesby Primary Academy’s new in-house catering to deliver healthy meals for pupils.

UCA’s head of catering, Julie Hunt-Lucas, helped transform its menu and students’ eating habits, leading to a Middlesbrough Council Food4Health Gold Award in 2012.

Menu highlights include salmon tagliatelle with fresh broccoli, mini Yorkshire puds with roast beef and ‘catch of the day’ fish options such as cod, haddock, sardines, plaice and tuna.

She said: “We know where our produce is coming from and every ingredient that goes into our dishes. It’s small changes- such as swapping white breads, pastas and rice for wholemeal- that make all the difference.”

Christine Kemp-Hall, principal at North Ormesby Primary Academy, added: “We’re the first primary in Middlesbrough to bring catering in-house and we are very excited about the challenges ahead and being able to create a first class dining experience for the children and staff.”
