A PLANNING application for a waste transferstation near a County Durham village has been withdrawn.

Councillors were due today (Tuesday, January 7) to consider a recommendation to approve the scheme by Veolia ES.

It was seeking permission to open the facility at its vehicle depot by the A177 at Garmondsway, Bishop Middleham, near Sedgefield.

Some residents have voiced concerned, with one couple objecting because it would “generate an unacceptable level of noise, dust, odours and traffic movements."

Planning officers recommended Durham County Council’s county planning committee to grant permission.

But committee chairman Keith Davidson told members: “The application was withdrawn late last night.”
