A VINTAGE shop is taking its customers back to the 'swinging sixties' thanks to a retro listening booth.

Customers at Retro Replay, in Darlington’s High Northgate, can now try their vinyl before they buy it in the store’s new listening booth, complete with record player.

Harking back to the golden age of vinyl, when listening booths adorned the walls of record stores across the country, visitors to the store’s record room can listen to any vinyl they like, from The Rolling Stones, to Elvis, before buying it.

Denise Cornforth set up the shop almost two years ago and sells vintage clothing, furniture and records.

She said: “When you listen to a piece of music it instantly makes you remember a time in your life – it is about bringing memories back to people.

“People often look at a record and try and remember what a certain song sounds like, and now that they can try it and remember it for themselves.

“There is something about a piece of vinyl, when you listen to it you listen to all the scratches as well, it isn’t like a CD.

“It is just a bit of fun - the customers think it is great.”

Retro Replay is open from Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10am to 5pm, and Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
