TWO more people have been arrested and another questioned by police after a couple were badly beaten during a town centre assault.

It follows an incident in Hall Street, Barnard Castle, County Durham, between 9.30pm and 10pm on Friday, December 6.

A 44-year-old man required hospital treatment and his 41-year-old partner was injured when they went to investigate the cause of noise only to be confronted by a large gang of people.

In total, four people have been arrested in connection with the incident. All have been released on bail.

Sergeant Simon Rogers, of Barnard Castle Police, said the investigation was continuing.
