A TEENAGER arrested on suspicion of murdering a former amateur boxer has been released without charge, police have confirmed.

The 17-year-old was arrested along with two other men who remain in police custody while investigations continue into the death of Mark Denton.

The 31-year-old, of Hartlepool, was found with severe injuries at a house party on New Year’s Eve in the town and died later in hospital.

Forensic officers scoured the area around the house in Hutton Avenue while door-to-door inquiries were carried out.

Detectives leading the murder investigation are calling on anyone who was at the party, who hasn’t already been spoken to by officers, to come forward with any information they may have.

Yesterday, Mr Denton’s family issued a statement through police paying tribute to his ‘larger than life character’.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “A 17-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the investigation into the death of Mark Denton has been released without charge.

"Two 23-year-old men remain in custody for questioning after an extension was granted.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 55 111.
