A FORMER councillor will celebrate the town she once represented in an forthcoming art exhibition.

Ex-Middlesbrough councillor turned artist Maire McSorley will exhibit work inspired by her love of Teesside in a six-week exhibition beginning on Friday, January 10.

The Colours of Teesside exhibition showcases some of the area’s best known and much-loved sights, including the Cliff Lift at Saltburn, Middlesbrough’s Transporter Bridge and the industrial scenes at Teesport.

Ms McSorley moved to Oxford almost 25 years ago but remains inspired by her love of Teesside.

She said: “My emotional connection with Teesside is as strong as ever. Like many Teessiders our family were economic migrants from Ireland who came to live and work in Middlesbrough.

”Our family chose to come to Teesside and I enjoyed living and working here for over thirty years. My three children were all born here.

"I am delighted to be exhibiting on Teesside where the people, the Works, the streets and hills; the river, sea and moors all hold a special place in my heart. I hope this comes across in my work.”

The exhibition will be shown from Friday, January 10 until Friday, February 21 at the Heritage Gallery on the ground floor of Cargo Fleet offices on Middlesbrough Road.  Entry is free.
