A 22-YEAR-OLD man has appeared before magistrates after a man was threatened with a gun near a supermarket.

Thomas Boyne, of Sowerby, Thirsk, was charged at Northallerton Magistrates Court with two counts of possessing an imitation firearms with intent to cause fear of violence.

Magistrates committed the case to crown court and remanded Boyne in custody.

The charges follow an incident near Tesco supermarket on Station Road, Thirsk, at 9.25pm on Monday, (December 30) when a man was allegedly threatened with a gun.

A second man, aged 26, also from Sowerby, is due to appear before the court on Friday, January 24, charged with the same offences.
