Charity fundraiser vows to take on any challenge to raise money for Cancer Research
A YOUNG Teessider has said he will do “absolutely anything” to raise £20,000 in 2014 for charity.
Jonathan Chambers, 26, of Thornaby and some close friends raised £5,000 for Cancer Research last year as his mother and grandmother have had breast cancer, although both are now in remission.
Mr Chambers is determined to raise four times more money this time and he and his friends have already identified a number of daring ideas, including sky-diving.
He said: “I’m open to absolutely anything that people will sponsor me for. Just name it. The worst thing I did last year was getting my chest waxed. It was horrendous, bits of skin came off and everything. I also shaved my head and the rest of the team did loads of brilliant things.
“I’m conscious that you rely on the same people again and again to sponsor you and we’re really keen to get the message out there to other people this year. We’ve roughly worked out a lot of events already but we’re going to go through them in detail in the coming days. But if anyone is prepared to sponsor me for something, I’m open to suggestions. Just go on my website.”
Mr Chambers’ mother, Lynn Hodgson, was diagnosed with breast cancer at Christmas 2011 and was given the all-clear early in 2013. His grandmother has suffered from the disease twice in her life.
He stressed that he does not raise the money by himself but works with close friends Dean Chaffer, Alex Rice and Darren White as well as his mum.
