A YOUNG woman was assaulted and robbed in broad daylight in Middlesbrough on Friday (December 27).

The 21-year-old was alone at the junction of Borough Road and Emily Street in the town centre at about 11.10am when she was assaulted and dragged on to Emily Street at the side of Teesside House.

She was then pushed to the ground and assaulted until she gave up her white iPhone which was in a red case.

The man responsible then ran off along Boswell Street, towards Jedburgh Street. Cleveland police said they were looking for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The man was described as white, of slim build, around 6 feet tall and wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a black hooded top and a black baseball cap.

The victim was left extremely shaken, with a bloodied face though she did not need hospital treatment.

Police are requesting anyone who has not yet spoken to police to contact DC Kevin Carter via the non emergency number 101. Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
