A PUB worker is getting into the thrifty spirit and collecting bottle tops for youngsters to turn into works of art.

Steph Coates, who works at The White Heifer That Travelled, in West Park, Darlington, has been collecting bottle tops for the Scrap Studio, which helps youngsters to create artworks from scrap materials.

People can also drop off other reusable materials at the pub, such as paper, buttons, wool, cord, rope and string for use at the Scrap Studio.

The social enterprise, run by community artists Yvonne Preston and Rosi Thornton, helps youngsters and adults to create works of art from recycled materials they might otherwise throw in the bin.

The Scrap Studio is based in Borough Road Nursery School, in Darlington, and hosts a number of workshops for both children and adults.
