A 44-YEAR-OLD woman who was thrown from her horse on the moors was rescued by a specialist team yesterday, Saturday, December 28.

The woman from Boosbeck, east Cleveland, was left with severe leg injuries.

Paramedics called for assistance from the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team as she had been thrown from her horse over a mile from the nearest road on the moors above Marske, near Redcar.

The drama began at about 2pm and 20 members of the team responded. Eventually the Great North Air Ambulance took her to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

Team spokesman, Pete Mounsey said “ The incident was quite straight forward for us to deal with and a scenario for which we train for quite frequently”

“So far this year the 50 member strong rescue team have been called out a record number of 62 times to deal with incidents ranging from missing walkers to injured hikers and mountain bikers.”
