A ROAD safety event has benefitted two charities when organisers handed over cheques for £500 to each.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service and Zoe’s Place were the chosen charities for Ridewell 2013, which took place in the summer.
The event, which is in its twelfth year, continues in its efforts to reduce the number of serious injuries and fatalities on the county’s roads.
Cleveland Police’s assistant chief constable Sean White, who presented the cheques to the charities, said: “The benefit of the Ridewell event is two-fold, firstly the main aim of Ridewell is to cut the number of people who are seriously injured or killed on our roads and secondly any proceeds are donated to charity.
“We are very pleased to be able to present the Great North Air Ambulance and Zoe’s Place with this money, which will hopefully go some way in continuing with their incredible work.”
In 1999 when the event was first launched, there were eight motorcyclist fatalities in the Cleveland force area. In 2012 this figure was reduced to zero, which has always been the long term aim of the motorcycle section.
