AN endurance event in memory of a Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan will take place in North Yorkshire on Saturday (December 28).

The Jonny Crookes Endurance Run will be held on Roomer Common, Masham, starting at 10am.

The event will take place on a 6.5 mile course on difficult terrain and aims to test runners' stamina and strength.

All proceeds from the run will be donated to Royal Marines charities.

Marine Jonathan Crookes, a reservist in 40 Commando Royal Marines, was killed in an explosion while on foot patrol in Afghanistan in July 2010.

The 26-year-old, from Halesowen, West Midlands, had volunteered to serve in the country three times.

Entry for Saturday's run costs £7.50 for members of Peak Military Fitness and £10 for non members. For more information, contact Peak Military Fitness on Facebook or call 07834-015152.
