SENIOR managers at a North Yorkshire housing association have foregone their annual Christmas lunch and donated money to an initiative that provides emergency food parcels to local people.

Each year, the management team at Broadacres usually meets for a Christmas lunch but this year, the 14 members of staff each donated the money they would normally pay for lunch to buy food for the Hambleton Foodshare.

Hambleton Foodshare is a community partnership which provides a three-day emergency food parcel to people in temporary financial crisis from having to go hungry because of their various circumstances. This could be because they have lost their job, become incapacitated or the result of a delay in benefit payments.

Guru Naidoo, Broadacres' Director of Corporate Services, said: "It was an easy decision not to have our Christmas lunch and to put the money towards a very worthwhile initiative that helps people in real need.

"The money will be much better served buying food for those who, for various reasons, may be struggling to feed themselves and their families this Christmas."
