POLICE said last night they had identified a skull and some bones which were found in woodland near Wynyard village, Teesside, this month.

The bones belonged to a 31-year-old man who was reported missing and found dead in 2012 and whose death was investigated at the time by Durham Police and found not to be suspicious.

Cleveland Police are not releasing any further details and said they would not be releasing the man’s name to lessen the family’s distress.

They said there were no suspicious circumstances around the fact the skull and some bones were found in this location.

The grim discovery was made by a member of the public on Wednesday, December 11 and officers and an anthropologist investigated.
