POLICE have turned to the public for help in identifying a couple suspected of ruining someone’s Christmas by stealing presents.

The pair are believed to have stolen the gifts from a sack which had fallen from the back of a delivery van in York.

Last Friday morning a member of the public called the police after seeing a man and woman acting suspiciously behind a storage container in the Salisbury Terrace area of York.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects had rummaged through the mail sack, opened the parcels and had stolen some of the contents.

Most of the stolen items were Christmas presents and include Paul Smith brown leather shoes, a Hugo Boss perfume gift set and a device to protect electrical equipment from surges.

The sack of parcels fell from the insecure door of a delivery van which was travelling in the Leeman Road, Garfield Terrace and Salisbury Terrace area.

Police are asking for anyone who can identify the pair from the photographs or saw the incident take place to contact them. Both suspects are described as aged in their twenties. The man has shaved hair at the sides and back with longer hair on top. The woman has long dark hair and was wearing large gold earrings.
