A BRIDGE that was closed after it was damaged in flooding in September has reopened.

The bridge at Mill Lane, in Skinningrove, east Cleveland, was re-opened after repair work was completed by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council at about 3pm yesterday. (THURSDAY)

Torrential rain caused the bridge to collapse, leaving only two steep roads which are difficult to use during bad weather.

Councillor Helen McLuckie, the council's cabinet member for highways, planning and transport, said: “Our regeneration team has been working extremely hard on this issue and should be commended.

“Like many bridges this one contained a gas main which had to be diverted in order to carry out the work.

“Contractors will remain on site until February putting the finishing touches to the project.

“Meanwhile, we would like to thank residents for their continued patience throughout the disruption.”

Engineers from Northern Gas Networks are remaining on site to complete diversion works.
