AN elderly pensioner suffered a suspected broken wrist when she was pushed to the ground and mugged by a 'stocky' man.

A brown leather handbag containing cash and personal belongings was stolen after the 85-year-old woman got off a bus near to The Avenue, off Bishopton Road West, in Stockton, on Wednesday, December 18, at around 3pm.

Following the incident the woman was taken to hospital and treated for a suspected broken wrist.

The suspect made off along Bishopton Road West and into the nearby estate. He is described as of stocky build and wearing dark clothing.

Detective Sergeant Kenny Clark said: “This was a despicable and cowardly robbery on an elderly lady.

"Police would appeal for any one with information on the identity of the suspect or any witnesses to come forward and speak to them on the non-emergency 101 number or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.”
