A unique back-to-back screening of the widely-acclaimed animated films, The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child, accompanied by the Royal Northern Sinfonia is being held at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

Adapted for live performance, René Aubry’s spell-binding film score will be performed by the North-East’s award-winning orchestra, led by Olivier Award-winning composer Terry Davies at 2pm on Sunday, December 29.

WILLIAM TILLYER: The William Tillyer exhibition at the mima gallery includes a huge digitally manipulated watercolour inspired by the River Tees High Force waterfall. The display is the largest by a single artist since the gallery of modern art opened in Middlesbrough in 2007. The exhibition which includes paintings, watercolours, sculptures and drawings, runs until February 9, 2014.

CALENDAR BOY: Sam Fallis is celebrating after his artistic achievements landed him the coveted front page position on a calendar. The ten-year-old pupil from Redcar’s Green Gates Primary School, saw off competition from pupils at 11 other schools to be chosen as overall winner in the 2014 Community Calendar Competition. Twelve major industrial companies across Teesside financially support the calendar, including SABIC UK Petrochemicals, Ensus, Lotte Chemical UK, GDF Suez, Northumbrian Water, BOC and Sembcorp at Wilton; GrowHow, Lucite International and Fujifilm Diosynth at Billingham and Greenergy at North Tees. It is also backed by Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton Borough Councils.
