MORE information about the next phase of the £38m regeneration plan for Stockton High Street is being made available to the public.

Major road works have been implemented and now Stockton Borough Council has organised a drop in session for tomorrow, Wednesday, December 18 at the Rediscover Stockton shop on the High Street so the public can find out more about the next phase.

Work will start again in January and will involve new paving, street furniture, street lighting and landscaping to create a dedicated space for specialist markets and events.

There will also bring a central, focal point area to the High Street, incorporating seating, grass, feature lighting and a water feature. This central part of the High Street will also double up as a new event space.

A council spokeswoman said access to shops will be maintained at all times.

Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor Mike Smith, said: “The High Street is already beginning to look and feel different and once this next stage is under way these big improvements will really create an inviting town centre for visitors and residents alike.

"We ask for visitors and residents to be patient as the works progress in this area of the High Street. In the long-term these works will make it easier for visitors and shoppers to get around the town centre and access the vast range of shops, businesses, markets and leisure facilities on offer here.”

Representatives from Stockton Council and contractors, Birse Civils will be available at the drop in session from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Anyone who cannot make the session but would like more information can contact the Rediscover Shop on 01642-526729 or 527184 or email rediscoverstockton@stockton.gov.uk
